Wind Youth Services
The Wind Youth Center is a safe and non-judgmental place that caters to homeless and runaway youths to get them off the streets. These youths are provided with a welcoming and age-appropriate place to escape the dangers of being out on their own. These young men and women will be given access to a health clinic, which provides basic services as well as STD and HIV testing and education. There is also a full time counselor on staff that is available to all.
The Wind Youth Center provides access to shelter, warm meals, peer support, helping get California IDs and birth certificates, laundry services, employment assistance, education assistance, case management services, creative workshops, therapeutic groups, showers, crisis intervention, drop in counseling, and mental health respite.
Additionally, they provide a street outreach program that offers homeless youth shelter, sack lunches, transportation, personal hygiene packs, first aid supplies, referrals to other resources, and HIV and STD testing and counseling. They also provide access to emergency overnight shelters for youth aged 12 to 18 and 18 to 24.
They also offer housing programs. One is the transitional housing program for youth aged 18 to 24 focused on living in the community and developing independent living skills. Youths will live together and work closely with a case manager to get and keep jobs, further their educations, and other goals. Another is the Doorway, which is a two-year rapid re-housing program for 18 to 24 year old youths, who will pay a portion of their income to cover rent. They live independently in private apartments and have guidance and support from a case manager. There is also Step-Up Sacramento, which is a permanent supportive housing program that is in partnership with Next Move, where chronically homeless youth are given more intensive guidance and support services.
