Youth Moving On
Youth Moving On was created in 2005 as a transitional housing program. It provides transition-aged youth (aged 16 to 25) with a series of support services to help them find independence and fulfilling lives. There are a variety of programs available, including health and wellness, workforce development, life skills, and financial literacy. Through the Peer Resource Center, they also offer transitional housing, affordable and permanent supportive housing programs. Youths are given more resources for learning independence through internships, subsidized education and scholarships, and other support service providers.
They emphasize employment as an important part of finding stability and generational changes to end the culture of poverty that is often associated with former foster children and probation youth. There are weekly classes in hard and soft job skill development and pathways to employment. There are two types of job internship programs: job readiness and career tracks. Young men and women will receive training that will help increase their competency and make them a greater asset to the workforce.
A specialized plan will be created which will provide an interactive classroom that has teaches job searching methods, interviewing skills, literacy, and math skills. They will problem solving and coping skills, lessons in fundamental Spanish, certification in Microsoft products, and job sustaining ethics. They will also be linked to vocational and college counselors. Local businesses and organizations will provide work experience. There are also living stipends to full-time students that use the on-site tutoring services.
